Maghreb
In Morocco the important partnership with Promopharm allowed the launch of several Chiesi’s products with local sales accounting for about 4 million Euro in 2006, with a market share of 1.8 %. The main therapeutic areas of interest are the respiratory, muscular-skeletal and cardiovascular ones.
In Tunisia a Chiesi scientific office has been operating for several years, allowing Chiesi to achieve leading positions in the respiratory and musculo-skeletal therapeutic areas and a significant market share (1,2%), with local sales of about 5.2 million Euro. Recently, the cardiovascular line was launched and the new products from the respiratory line will allow further expansion in this strategic area.
In Algeria a dedicated sales force has been operating for several years in the market. Local sales of Chiesi products today amount to almost 9 million Euro. Cycladol ® was launched in 2006 and other products of the respiratory line are under registration and will feed the respiratory and cardiovascular pipelines.
Egypt
A dedicated Chiesi sales force (Scientific Office) was established in 2003 and markets the respiratory and musculo-skeletal products. Local sales amounted to about 3.8 million Euro in 2006, with a market share of 0.85%.
Mexico
The registration of Curosurf® in Mexico was considered a good opportunity to build a local Special Care small organization in order to provide scientific communication and promote the product to the local medical community. Other special care products will follow. In addition, the registration of the respiratory pipeline, which is in progress, will be a good way of significantly developing the business in this important Latin American
