The US affiliate, Chiesi Pharmaceuticals Inc., provides both local and global Research & Development, and Business Development and Licensing support to Chiesi Group. The company headquarters are in Rockville, MD, not far from the headquarters of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Following a meeting for Carmoterol HFA pMDI with the FDA, an Investigational New Drug Application (IND) was prepared and submitted to the FDA in April 2006. The initial clinical trial for that IND was initiated in the 3rd Quarter of 2006. The US affiliate was also actively involved in the assembly of the New Drug Application (NDA) for CHF 1538, Tobramycin solution for inhalation. Establishing partners for the further development and commercialization of these products was also a major focus.

The US affiliate continues to aid in supporting Curosurf ® for the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome in premature neonates. Curosurf® is marketed in the US through a licensee. Looking to the future, the US affiliate is also actively working to establish a formal relationship with one of the foremost research centres for pulmonary biology in the US, to identify and evaluate other promising opportunities.
